Archbishop Carrroll Swings Past Miami Jackson 10-0
The Archbishop Carroll Bulldogs picked up their seventh win of the season Tuesday afternoon at Tamiami Park, scoring six runs in the sixth en route to a 10-0 win over the Miami Jackson Generals.
It was the final 4A District 14 game of the season for both teams, and the Bulldogs (7-10 overall) finished 2-2 in the district.
“We’ve been playing good ball lately,” Bulldogs coach Manuel Goberna said. “We’ve been able to turn things around, and it showed.”
Archbishop Carroll grabbed a one-run lead in the first inning and never gave it away.
Danny Acevedo drove in Brandon Mubarak with a RBI single in the third inning, and proceeded to steal second and third before coming home when Miami Jackson’s pitcher balked. The Bulldogs had four attempted steals in the third to go along with their four hits.
“You got to be aggressive, and that’s my theory,” Goberna said. “I preach it in practice, and at the same time, we have to be able to defend that.”
The Bulldogs led by three after five innings and padded their lead in the sixth with six more runs on five hits. After two quick outs, Mike Lobello singled up the middle for his only hit of the game, and the Bulldogs then took advantage of a couple of mistakes by Miami Jackson to load the bases. Travis Luke sent all runners home with his second hit of the day, a three-run double. Dean Garabedean added to the lead when his RBI single brought in Luke.
Richard Noa started on the mound for the Bulldogs and didn’t allow a hit until the fourth inning. He was relieved by Adam Young to start the fifth.
Sandro Gordillo came home in the seventh to give the Bulldogs their final run of the day.
Coach Goberna sent senior Micheal Orta to the mound to close in the seventh. Otra shut down Miami Jackson with three straight outs, including two K’s, to end the game.
