Nine straight wins for the defending state champions after beating Trinity Christian and LaSalle last week. Those games were tune ups for the challenge that awaits at the National High School Invitational in Cary, North Carolina. We will learn a lot about the Firebirds this week.

It was a light week for the Wolverines, with only one game, a 10-1 win over Archbishop Carroll. Three winnable games are on tap this week, before a showdown with Broward #3 American Heritage next Monday...

Raise your hand if you saw Varela being a team that would be ranked third as we head to the second half of the season. The Vipers will find out a lot about their team Thursday when they travel to play Miami Springs...

The Explorers may have lost to Broward and Florida #1 Douglas on Friday, but they did something only one other team in 45 games has done. Score six or more runs on the Eagles. Columbus is right there with the best teams in South Florida, and another state run would shock nobody..

The Raiders have as many wins against quality opponents as any team in Miami, and they picked up another one last week over Palm Beach #8 St. John Paul. Expect Gulliver to move up the rankings with their next five games being against teams under .500...

The Warriors had a rough go of it in the Tennessee Classic, going 1-2-1. Although the record looks bad, the performance was not, as they didn't give up more than four runs in any game, and were only outscored 12-11 in their four games...

The Conchs seem like a team that is ready to go on a run, but just haven't put it all together yet. Pitching has been an issue in their losses, as they have given up 31 runs in their four losses.

After starting the season hot, the Bucs have run into some tough times, having gone 0-2-2 during spring break. Back-to-back games this week against district rival Palmetto should be just what the doctor ordered to get the competitive juices flowing again...
