Bison Use Key Hits To Get Past Hi-Tides 6-1
Reagan Bison Manager J.C Hugnuet preached to his team before the opening pitch to be aggressive, and the Bison did just that as they downed the Miami Beach Hi-Tide 6-1 in Tuesdays 8A District 14 match-up.
The Bison capitalized on runners in scoring position as they drove in six runs off eight hits.
“We’re always trying to get that extra base,” Hugnuet said. “We executed and made the big when we had to. That’s the way we’re going to succeed.”
Steven Feierabend started on the mound for Reagan and sat down the first six batters he faced. Feierabend gave up one hit and four strikeouts in four innings.
The Bison’s Brando Romero singled to start the bottom of the second inning. Raul Cortes followed with a double, and Alejandro Acosta loaded the bases after being walked. Miami Beach then walked Luis Rincon, bringing Romero for the first run of the day.
Joe Diaz showed off his powerful swing, sending a pitch short of the left center wall for a stand-up triple. The Hi-Tides RHP Cristian Almonte bounced back with back-to-back strikeouts, but Bison’s Cortes’ was able to get a hold of a Almonte pitch and bring in Diaz.
Arturo Rincon relieved Feierabend to start the fifth, Rincon sat down the first three batters he faced a recored two strikeouts.
Reagan’s Jeffrey Nistal singled to left field and then stole second base in the bottom of the fifth. Arturo Rincon’s grounder was misplayed, putting Nistal on third. Acosta then struck a ground-out to third, bringing in Nistal. Luis Ricon followed his brother, and jumped on base after being walked. Diaz, looking to increase the lead for the Bison, stood at the plate with one thing in mind: Stay aggressive. Diaz hit another shot to center field, bringing in Arturo and Luis Rincon.
The Bison’s continued to attack in the bottom of the sixth, and Paul Menendez singled to right field. Romero was then walked, and Cortes moved Menendez to third with his sacrifice bunt. Nistal grounded out, bringing in Menendez for the Bison’s sixth run of the game.
The Hi-Tides attempted to rally in the seventh but Bison’s ace Arturo Rincon threw his fourth strikeout and forced two fly-outs to end the game.
“It gives me confidence knowing my teammates and coaches trust me,” Bison pitcher Arturo Rincon said. “This was a big district game, and it’s been our goal to win districts.”
The Reagan Bison pick up their second district win and improve to 2-4 on the season.
Miami Beach Hi-Tide is already trying to put this game behind them and prepare for Coral Gables on Thursday.
“We’re a young team and the more reps and experience this team gets is going to get this flower to bloom,” Hi-Tides Manager Willy Baez said. “Rome wasn’t build in one day, and our goal now is Coral Gables.”
