Daily Recap For Miami-Dade Games On Tuesday, February 12th
The season’s in full swing! Not really, it’s just day two, but there were plenty of highlights from Tuesday. Here’s the recap…
Mater Lakes Academy 3, American Heritage-Plantation 1 – The Bears pulled off the biggest upset of the young season on Tuesday with an impressive 3-1 win on the road against defending state champion American Heritage. Peter Llerena went six stellar innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out seven. Vincente Amor was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Mater.
Westwood Christian 5, Zion Lutheran 4 – The Warriors picked up their first win of the season behind some clutch hitting. Claudio Gonzalez and Robert Hernandez each had a home run for Westwood. Gonzalez also added a single in the game. Andy Rivera picked up the win.
Hialeah Gardens 12, Miami Senior 1 – The Gladiators evened their record at 1-1 with the win Tuesday. David Lara went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs, and a stolen base. George Alonzo added two RBIs and a double, and Padro Rovello had an RBI and a stolen base.
TERRA Institute 7, Reagan 4 – Alexis Valladares went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs. The Wolves also received a strong performance from Nick Lopez, who had three runs scored, and Alex Saavedra, who contributed with an RBI. TERRA will take their 1-0 record into a game with Keys Gate Charter on Wednesday.
Belen Jesuit 3, Mourning 2 – Danny Perets was spectacular on the mound for the Wolverines, going five innings and striking out seven. William Fabra closed the door with two innings of shutout relief. David Guevara was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Alex Cabrera stole three bases and scored a run.
Ransom Everglades 8, Marathon 1 – The Raiders got a complete game effort on the mound from Chris Rossi. Jimmy Gutierrez paced the offense with two RBIs, and Matt Heisenbobble added a double and an RBI. Ransom is now 1-0 on the year.
LaSalle 14, Highlands Christian 0 – The Lions scored early and often in this one. Yorean Pena hit a three-run home run, while Elier Rodriguez added a home run and three RBIs of his own. Alex Garcia went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Fred Thomas took care of the mound work, striking out three Knights.
Killian 10, Douglas 3 – Keith Stevens went six strong innings for the Cougars in their first game of the Falcons Challenge in Pembroke Pines. Mike Perez went 3-for-4 with a home run, and Spencer Levine was 2-for-3 with a triple. Killian can reach the title game with a win over Pace on Wednesday.
Varela 11, Miami Beach 1 – Varela got a complete game effort from Josh Rosquet. The Vipers are now 2-0 on the young season, and will face Miami Sunset on Wednesday.
Goleman 4, Miami Sunset 2 – The Gators moved their record to 2-0. Javier Perdomo went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base. Daniel Ruiz added two RBIs, and Erick Delgado had two hits and a run. Goleman will look to continue their undefeated tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
