Daily Recaps For Miami-Dade Games On Thursday, February 21st
It was a big day for shutout victories on Thursday, as five teams held their opposition scoreless. Here is a look at some of those results:
Killian, 4 Varela 0 – Vladimir Nunez pitched six innings to earn the victory for the Cougars (5-0-1). Nick Mira was 2-for-2 with a run and Gil Polanco went 2-for-4 with a double and three stolen bases. The Vipers (2-3) lost their third straight.
Ferguson 6, Braddock 0 – Victor Morrell improved to 2-1 by holding the Bulldogs (2-1) to two hits while striking out four in the complete-game victory. Anthony Tucker was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs to lead the Falcons (4-1), and Carlos Tapia went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Hialeah 10, Dr. Krop 0 – Right-hander Alexis Herrera shined from both sides, as the junior was 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI and also recorded nine strikeouts to earn the victory for the Thoroughbreds (1-1). Kevin Betancourt was 3-for-4 with an RBI. The Lightning (0-2) have lost five straight dating back to last season.
Mater East 10, Somerset Academy Charter 0 – Jeter Downs had two home runs and four total RBIs to lead the Scorpions (3-1). Ronny Torenrino went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Danny Castillo had an RBI single and earned the win on the mound. The Silver Palms fell to 0-3.
TERRA 12, Miami Jackson 1 – Alexis Valladares continued his big week by going 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI to lead the Wolves (4-0). Reuben Pino was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs and Alex Saavedra went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. The Generals dropped to 1-3.
Sunset 5, Southwest Miami 4 – The Knights (4-1) held off a late rally from the Eagles (1-2). Austin Comesanas allowed one hit over six innings to earn the win, while Herbert Iser homered, Michael Centeno had two hits and Danilo De Armas had a two-RBI single.
Southridge 4, Palmetto 2 – Austin Peterson’s pinch-hit two-RBI single with the bases loaded in the sixth lifted the Spartans (2-2). Octavio Mirabel was 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and Christian Khawam tripled. Riley Delgado went 3-for-4 and Carter Nash was 2-for-2 for the Panthers (2-3).
Dade Christian 11, Archbishop Curley 1 – Anthony Munoz had six strikeouts and Robert De La Vega went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs to lead the Crusaders (2-0). Xander Garcia was 2-for-3 with two runs, Alex Perera had two RBIs and Anthony Martel scored twice. The Knights are 1-3.
Ransom 17, Coral Shores 13 – Friedman went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, and G. Ruben walked three times and scored three times for the Raiders. C. Bush went 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs and two RBIs.
