Tuesday’s baseball action included not one but two tie finishes. Here’s a look at some of the results…
Doral Academy 3, Westwood Christian 3 – The Firebirds scored three in the top of the seventh, and the Warriors responded with a pair in the bottom of the seventh. The game was called due to darkness after eight full innings. Christian Martinez was 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for Doral, while Luis Diaz and Adam Quinones both homored for Westwood. The Warriors Danny Garcia struck out 11. Doral’s Jose Vasquez struck out four. Carlos Pino also homered.
Braddock 10, Coral Park 9 – Albert Rafael was 2-for-4 and delivered the walk-off hit to finish with two RBIs that moved the Bulldogs to 2-0. Anthony Alvarez was 2-for-5 with a triple and two runs, and Gaby Mundo was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs. The Rams (1-1) have scored 20 runs in their first two games.
Coral Gables 3, Miami Senior 2 (8 innings) – Raymond Gonzalez had the winning RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Cavaliers (2-2). Chris Viera was the workhorse on the mound, throwing a complete-game while limiting the Stingarees (0-4) to five hits and one earned run. Elih Marrero was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI for Coral Gables.
Miami Sunset 14, Archbishop Carroll 13 – The Knights (3-1) held off a late seven-run sixth-inning surge by the Bulldogs (2-1). Michael Centeno was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs to lead Sunset, while Michael Paez and Alfredo Isler each added a home run. Paez had three RBIs, and Garcia was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Killian 4, Coral Reef 0 – Sophomore right-hander Keith Stevens tossed a no-hitter and recorded six strikeouts to push the Cougars to 4-0 in the District 8A-16 opener for both teams. Mike Perez was 2-for-2 with a double, a home run and three RBIs for Killian, which recorded its first shutout since last season’s regional quarterfinals. The Barracudas fell to 0-4.
Dade Christian 5, LaSalle 4 – Nick Cue recorded four strikeouts in three relief innings to earn the victory for the Crusaders (1-0), and Alex Perera came in to record the final two outs and earn the save. Conner Morris was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs and Anthony Martel was 1-for-3 with a double and a run. The Lions (1-3) are 1-6 in one-run decisions dating back to last season.
Miami Springs 10, Miami Beach 4 – The Hawks (1-3) earned their first victory of the season in the District 8A-14 opener for both ballclubs, as Anthony Diaz and Pedro Rivera were both 3-for-4. Alex Iruela had six strikeouts in three innings on the mound to pick up the victory, while Juan Kirk was 2-for-3 and Austin Voeller went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. The Hi-Tides fell to 0-4.
Mourning 19, Norland 1 – The Sharks (1-2) opened it up with a 10-run third inning as Alex Vallejo was 3-for-3 with a triple, a home run and five RBIs. Jose Reyes went 2-for-3 with an RBI. The Vikings fell to 2-2 and 1-2 in District 6A-16.
