Southwest Goes Batty In 16-2 Win Against Dr. Krop
Southwest came out swinging hard during its first preseason game of the year, defeating Dr. Krop 16-2.
The Eagles took this game early, scoring 15 runs off of the Lightning’s starting pitcher, Carlos Murillo, in the second inning.
Alex Perera got things started with a home run over the right-center field fence in the first inning. Perera also homered in the second inning, which saw a grand slam from Alex Cuevas.
“It feels great watching my teammates learn and adapt to every pitch, make improvements, and be disciplined on the plate,” said Perera, who also hit a triple in the second after the Eagles went twice through their lineup.
The 15 runs in the second inning broke the school’s record for most runs in an inning.
“Obviously, anytime you score fifteen runs in an inning, it’s a good thing,” Southwest manager Jose Torres said. “It’s just them being disciplined and getting good pitches to hit and it’s good to see. We need to have that confidence early on so we can carry it on for the rest of the year.”
Dr. Krop didn’t let the 15-run deficit bring it down though. The Lightning came back in the top of the third with some solid base hits and scored their two runs.
“That’s one of the best-hitting teams in the county, maybe in South Florida,” Dr. Krop Manager Jason Sullivan said. “It’s a marathon, so we’re just going to keep competing and battling.”
