Daily Recaps For Miami-Dade County For Tuesday, March 5th

St. Brendan edged Westminster Christian 4-3 in one the many games played Tuesday around Miami-Dade. Here’s a look at a lot of them…


St. Brendan 4, Westminster Christian 3 – The Sabres (2-6) showed signs of life as they won for just the second time this season in grand fashion, edging the Warriors (4-2-1). Max Guzman homered and Danny Sirven doubled. Dennis Rivadineira went 2-for-2 with a double, and Yariel Cabrera went 1-for-3. Alejandro Cabrera struck out two in two innings.

Westland Hialeah 11, Mourning 1 – Luis Corrales went 2-for-3 with a home run, and Antonio Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a grand slam to power the Wildcats (4-2), who won their third in a row and improved to 3-2 in District 6A-16.


Hialeah 9, Hialeah Gardens 0 – Nestor Cortes struck out nine in six innings, allowing just one hit as the Thoroughbreds rolled to their third straight win at 4-2 and 3-1 in District 8A-13. Kevin Betancourt went 2-for-4, and Gilbert Maldonado went 2-for-3.

Mater Academy East 8, Champagnat 2 – Ronny Torenrino struck out six, and Jeter Downs went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to propel the Scorpions in the District 2A-14 game. Jose Garcia hit a grand slam to drive in four runs.

Varela 3, South Dade 2 – Juan Pimentel pitched a complete-game three-hitter, and JC Garcia hit a two-run double in the sixth to go ahead. The Vipers won their second in a row to improve to 4-4.

Doral Academy 7, Ransom Everglades 2 – Ryan Gronlier went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Christian Martinez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to pace the Firebirds (4-4-1) to their second win in a row and first in District 4A-15. Miquel Casanueva went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.

Goleman 6, Miami Beach 0 – Sean Carrasco pitched five innings and earned the win as the Gators rebounded from a big loss Monday night at Archbishop McCarthy to improve to 7-3.


Belen 23, Norland 0 – After being no-hit by LaSalle on Saturday in the HSBN Game of the Week, the Wolverines’ bats were cranking Tuesday. Pablo Cabrera went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run, and Niko Fernandez went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a double and three runs. Javier Herrera and Lucas Fernandez-Rocha each had a pair of hits and two RBIs. Fernandez-Rocha also scored twice.

Dade Christian 14, Miami Country Day 4 – Nick Cue struck out three in four and two-thirds innings as the Crusaders managed to get to .500 at 4-4 overall. Xander Garcia went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBIs, and 2RBIs, Anthony Munoz went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI Anthony Navarro triples and also reached base three times.

Coral Gables 3, Reagan 1 – Chris Viera allowed one earned run in six and two-thirds innings for the Cavaliers (5-3), who are on a three-game winning streak. Frankie Montesino went 2-for-3 with a double, and Rolando Rodriguez and Raymond Gonzalez each had a hit.

Miami Springs 5, Miami Senior 4 – Nick Bello struck out five and allowed on earned run in the win for Miami Springs (4-4) in the District 8A-14 game.
