Braddock Slugs Its Way Past Dr. Krop

Albert Rafeal makes a stop at home, preventing the Lightning from scoring.

Braddock is a team that has had its ups and downs throughout the season. You can put Wednesday’s game in the up column.

The Bulldogs brought out the big bats as they slugged their way past Dr. Krop 17-7.

The game ended by the mercy rule after Chris Rivera crossed home in the bottom of the fifth after a wild pitch.

“Sometimes we take the game too seriously and the pressure makes us lose, but if we have fun and laugh through the game, we excel,” Rivera said.

Rivera kept his bat alive throughout the game, going 3-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs after a triple to deep right field. Rivera expressed his love for the game and the team, but he also spoke about his concern for its mental errors.

Bulldogs Manager Vic Montalvo also said his team has been inconsistent but is picking up the slack late in the season.

“Consistency has been are biggest thing this year,” Montalvo said. “I think we’re starting to pick it up now. I think we’ve won five or six of our past seven games.”

The Bulldogs did more than just pick up the pace. They’re sprinting to the finish line. The game started off with the Lightning taking some hits off starting pitcher Anthony Baldrich, scoring two runs in the first inning in what looked as an early lead. But Braddock responded in its half of the inning, doing double the damage. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first, as they made it through the lineup before Dr. Krop’s defense made the necessary plays.

The rest of game just seemed like a repeat of the first inning. Braddock couldn’t slow down their bats, banging out at least one hit and run per inning, but their hitting spree did not deter the Lightning from staying in the game.

Dr. Krop continued to fight on by producing at least one run in every inning except the third and where its pitching seemed to have failed, its fielding stepped up. Lightning left fielder David Gil made two back-to-back diving plays, keeping Braddock to two runs.

Catcher Moises Flores also did a good job in keeping the ball in front of him on a couple of blocks.

“We swung it pretty good. I thought we had good approaches today, but our pitching on the mound today just put us behind,” Krop Manager Jason Sullivan said. “They came out swinging and we got behind on the count, and they definitely took advantage it.”
