District Playoff Recaps For Miami-Dade County For Monday, April 22nd

District 8A-16

South Dade 8, Varela 3 – Adam Roush allowed two hits and struck out nine over six shutout innings to lead the Buccaneers (14-9) to the championship game, where they await the winner of Tuesday’s contest between Southridge and Killian.

Roush improved to 7-2 for the season, and also helped his own cause at the plate by going 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs.

South Dade scored in each of the first four innings to pull ahead 8-0.

Erik Manoah went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored, and was also hit by a pitch to reach base in all three trips to the plate. Danny Vaughn also had two hits for the Bucs.

Senior right-handed ace Juan Pimental took the loss for the Vipers (9-7), closing on a tough final note after a brilliant season on the mound.

District 6A-16

Mater Academy 12, Westland Hialeah 2 – Mike Mediavilla helped the Lions (23-3) earn a place in the district title game by throwing his fourth complete game of the season.

The junior scattered six hits, two walks and two earned runs over six innings, and he finished with six strikeouts to improve to 7-0 on the season.

The offense pounded out 14 hits in support of their ace as Angel Ortiz was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and four RBIs, and Kevin Abraham had a home run, three RBIs and two runs.

The Wildcats (10-11) had an early 1-0 lead, before Mater took control with an eight-run third inning.

District 3A-16

Palmer Trinity 9, Somerset Academy Charter 1 – The Falcons (16-9) had back-to-back four-run innings to pull away for the quarterfinal victory.

Palmer Trinity will now face top-seeded Florida Christian Tuesday for the right to play in the district championship.

Senior catcher Justin Ziegelasch was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Dustin Phillipp was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Ben Roberts picked up the win on the mound, holding the Stallions to three hits while striking out three to improve to 4-4 on the year.

Carlos Colon was 2-for-3 with a double and run for Somerset Academy Charter.
