District Playoff Recaps For Miami-Dade County For Tuesday, April 23rd
Southwest Miami 7, South Miami 2 – Hernen Sardinas went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and winning pitcher Chris Mourelle went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI to help the Eagles (13-9) reach today’s semifinal against top-seeded Columbus.
Sunset 8, Braddock 2 – Danny Diaz pitched a complete-game four-hitter, and Alex Bravo went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Knights (16-7), who will in a semifinal today against second-seeded Ferguson. Herbert Iser went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Nick Machado added a pair of hits.
Hialeah 3, Hialeah Gardens 2 – Kenneth Betancourt drove in the winning run, and Nestor Cortes, Henry Perez and Alian Silva each had two hits for the Thoroughbreds (18-6), who will play American (17-8) in Thursday’s championship.
Belen Jesuit 6, Hialeah-Miami Lakes 0 – Alec Acosta went 4-for-4 with two home runs, two runs and four RBIs to power the Wolverines (20-7) past the Trojans (9-12) in a semifinal. Belen will meet Mater Academy in Thursday’s championship.
Alex Lorenzo went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run, and Pablo Cabrera and Alex Cabrera had hits and scored. Christian del Castillo went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run. William Fabra was the winning pitcher.
Archbishop Carroll 10, Miami Jackson 5 – David Salgueiro went 2-for-3 and Danny Acevedo went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run for the Bulldogs (8-12), who will face top-seeded Monsignor Pace in Thursday’s championship.
Mater Lakes Academy 10, Miami Country Day 4 – Alex Lorenzo, Jonathan Lorenzo and Alessandro Lima each had two hits and scored twice as the Bears (17-7-1) advanced into Thursday’s championship against the winner of today’s Archbishop Curley/Dade Christian game. Peter LLerena earned the win, and Anthony Rondon drove in four runs for the Bears, who used big innings to win.
Westwood Christian 7, Miami Christian 6 – Anthony Penas went 2-for-2 with three runs and three RBIs, and Luis Diaz went 2-for-4 with two runs to pace the Warriors (12-6-1), who scored in the bottom of the seventh to thwart the Victors’ upset bid. Westwood will move to play in the championship against Brito on Thursday.
