Campos No-Hitter Leads Florida Chr. Past Dade Chr.
Florida Christian junior hurler Michael Campos has managed to fly under the radar for the most of the season.
But following Saturday’s performance, that may change quickly.
The right-hander pitched a no-hitter and his offense staked him with plenty of run support as the host Patriots cruised to a 10-0 victory over Dade Christian in a 3A regional quarterfinal Saturday that was rescheduled from its original start date due to a horrible week of thunderstorms and rain outs across South Florida.
Making just his fifth start of the season, Campos earned his first win to improve to 1-2. He faced just three batters over the minimum in the five-inning contest shortened due to the mercy rule, allowing a pair of walks to Alex Perera and Luis Reyes while hitting Robert De La Vega with a pitch.
He also finished with five strikeouts to raise his season total to 39 in 35 innings of work, while helping the Patriots (15-11) advance to a home rematch with Westminster Christian in a 3A regional semifinal Tuesday night.
Leadoff hitter Mike Tosar helped stake Florida Christian with all the runs it would need as he singled to center field to start the bottom of the first, then stole second and came home on an RBI single from Jack Diaz.
Diaz was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Tosar scored twice.
Zach San Roman had a two-RBI double and Erik Montero scored four runs for the Patriots.
The Crusaders (10-18) end their season in a shutout defeat to Florida Christian for the second season in a row.
