HSBN Miami Game of the Week Schedule Announced
Last season, the High School Baseball Network Miami Game of the Week produced some of the most exciting games of the entire season. In 2014, HSBN has honed in on some of the most bitter rivalries, district foes, and three former state champions all looking to get back to Fort Myers.
Thanks to the success of last year’s Game of the Week schedule, this year HSBN was able to add an additional three weeks of games. In what promises to be some of the best baseball played in Miami this season, the Game of the Week lineup is packing a strong punch.
The Game of the Week schedule kicks off on Friday, February 14th, when two teams with high expectations meet. Luis Padron, fresh off a state title with Westwood Christian, moves over to become the manager at St. Brendan in 2014. Padron and the Sabres will host Cesar Temes’ Mater Lakes Academy Bears. The Bears have moved into a district with Monsignor Pace, and they will be tested early when they travel to face the Sabres.
Miami Country Day will host a Game of the Week for the second consecutive year. The Spartans and the Dade Christian Crusaders have an important early season district match-up on Friday, February 21st. The winner will get a leg up in 3A-15.
Westland Hialeah and Alonzo Mourning are two teams looking to make some waves in Miami this season. The Wildcats move into a district with perennial power American, while the Sharks will have to deal with Miami Springs, Norland, Carol City and Goleman. Westland and Mourning will be featured on Friday, February 28th.
Saturday, March 8th figures to be a packed house down at South Dade. The Buccaneers will host district rival Killian that evening. Although still relatively early in the season, the winner of this game will strike first in 8A-16. South Dade and Killian are both first time participants in the Game of the Week.
Hialeah is the only Miami team appearing twice on the Game of the week schedule in 2014. On a special Thursday edition, the Thoroughbreds will go on the road to face crosstown rival Hialeah Gardens. Then, on April 11th, Hialeah will play host to Coral Gables in a rematch of a 2013 Game of the Week. The Cavaliers will be looking to return the favor after a 5-2 loss to Hialeah last season.
Florida Christian will return as hosts of the Game of the Week when they face LaSalle on Friday, March 21st. The Patriots are looking to return to the state tournament for the second year in a row, while the Royal Lions are hoping to put it all together for a state run under Manager Oscar Benitez.
Gulliver Prep makes its first appearance on the Game of the Week schedule when they travel to Belen Jesuit on Saturday, April 5th. The Wolverines will be taking a break from a large district schedule in this one. Belen is in an eight team district, one of the largest in the state. The Raiders will only have to deal with a district half that size, with Key West, St. Brendan, and Coral Shores.
