Varela extended its winning streak to three games behind Marquis Gomez’s four-hitter as the Vipers beat Coral Reef 2-1 on Tuesday in an 8A-16 game. Eric Canoura doubled and drove in the tying run and then scored the winner on Chris Allende’s single in the bottom of the sixth. Palmetto also was a winner in 8A-16 and improved to 4-0 with a 7-3 win over Southridge. Lorenzo Laurita struck out five in two and one-third innings to lead Belen Jesuit to a 9-4 win over Killian. Hialeah Educational won its second district game and stayed unbeaten at 3-0 with a 2-1 win over Sagemont in 3A-15. Joey Jimenez, Alex Rodriguez and Danny Reyes homered in Mater Academy’s 8-6, nine-inning win over Columbus that kept the Lions undefeated at 4-0.
