Highlights, Scores and Recaps for Saturday, March 21st, 2015

Jose Chegwin drove in Marcos Perez for the winning run as Belen Jesuit edged St. Brendan 5-4 on Saturday in the opening round of the HSBN March Madness Shootout.

Bryan Melendez and Jose Padron combined for nine strikeouts to key Coral Gables’ 5-2 win over Flanagan.

Luis Valbuena had three hits as Doral Academy got past Champagnat 6-3.

In other Shootout games, Hialeah Educational beat Archbishop Carroll 6-5, Braddock edged Monsignor Pace 5-4, Mater Academy routed American 12-0, Mater Lakes Academy topped South Miami 6-1, Mourning Senior edged LaSalle 4-3. Also, SLAM got past South Plantation 4-3 and Hialeah Gardens beat Chaminade-Madonna 6-3.

Broward teams found success against their Miami-Dade opponents in other Shootout games. Keys Gate Charter lost 4-2 to Coral Springs, TERRA fell 9-6 against Cypress Bay, Westminster Academy topped Miami Brito 3-1 and North Broward Prep beat Miami Sunset 12-2.
