Highlights, Scores and Recaps for Thursday, March 19th, 2015

Doral Academy Manager Ralph Suarez earned his 400th career win as the Firebirds beat Mater Academy 10-9 in nine innings in a battle for third place in 6A-16 game Thursday. Suarez’s record is 400-112-9. It was the second win in the past six games for the Firebirds.

Miguel Cardoza’s three-run double in the top of the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie as Westminster Christian held on to beat Broward powerhouse Flanagan 4-3. Ryan Terry struck out seven in six innings.

Erick Delgado drove in five runs with two hits, and Michael Barreneche and Michael Avendano each had three hits to power Goleman to a 10-9 win over Miami Brito.

Herbert Iser hit a three-run home run that proved to be the difference in Killian’s 6-5 win over Varela in an 8A-16 game. The win puts the Cougars at the top of the district with a 7-1 record. Varela, which had its three-game winning streak snapped, is in third place at 6-2.
