Archbishop Carroll Falls Short Against John Carroll
Chase Solesky pitched a gem for John Carroll, striking out 13 in a three-hitter to lead the Rams to a 4-0 win over Archbishop Carroll in a 3A regional semifinal Thursday. The Rams (14-12) will take on Sagemont in Tuesday’s regional final.
John Carroll managed just five hits, but the Rams made the most of the light day on offense to support Solesky.
After a groundout to open the inning, Royce Neill doubled to left and scored on a passed ball two batters later during Solesky’s at-bat.
The teams got through the second and third without much happening as outs were quick to come by.
John Carroll tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth. Mario Presutti walked to lead off the inning before Solesky flied out and Keenan Bryant doubled to right, alowing Presutti to score.
The Rams broadened their lead in the fifth, scoring two runs with two outs. After a lineout and a groundout, Neill got on with a bunt single. Presutti and Solesky walked to load the bases. Bryant followed with a single to right to score Neill and Presutti.
Neill finished 2-for-3 with two runs, and Bryant was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Rams.
Alex Gonzalez, Chris Fenandez and Rey Gonce had the hits for the Bulldogs, who ended their season 18-9.
