Highlights, Scores and Recaps for Thursday, March 31st, 2016

Willy Escala went 2-for-3 with a home run to lead top-ranked South Dade past Killian 4-2 on Thursday in a battle for number one in 9A-16. The Buccaneers (17-1, 7-1) won their 13th consecutive game while the Panthers fell to 11-6, 6-2. Alek Manoah earned the win, pitching six strong innings, striking out four. He also went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Ricardo Sobalvarro had a hit and drove in a run.

Ferguson broke a tie game with a run in the top of the fourth before adding two more the next inning en route to a 6-3 win over Westland Hialeah. Alejandro Vieiro struck out five in five innings, and Cesar Reyes finished the game, striking out three more for the Falcons (6-10). Daniel Esquivel went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs, and Osmani Perez doubled and drove in three runs. Alex Soto went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Goleman came through with a run in the bottom of the sixth to break a tie game and beat Miami Springs 4-3 in a 6A-16 game. Winning pitcher Thomas Hernandez went six innings, allowing three hits while striking out four for the Gators (16-2, 10-0). Brandon Paez had a hit, two hit-by-pitches and scored, and Kevin Perez had a hit and drove in a run.
