Highlights, Scores and Recaps for Tuesday, April 19th, 2016

Christopher Liriano went 3-for-4 and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to lift Doral Academy past TERRA 3-2 in a 7A-16 semifinal Tuesday. Luis Valbuena went 2-for-5 with a double and RBI for the second-seeded Firebirds (17-9), who will compete against top-seeded Belen Jesuit in Thursday’s championship. Oscar Trujillo struck out seven and allowed four hits in a complete-game performance. Victor Cabrera closed it out, pitching three strong innings.

Joe Soto pitched a five-hitter, allowing one earned run while walking three and striking out eight to lead Mater Academy past Reagan 7-1 in an 8A-16 semifinal. The second-seeded Lions (11-11) will play top-seeded Westland Hialeah in Thursday’s championship.

Andrew Schreiber struck out 10 in six innings to lead Killian past Palmetto 5-2 in a 9A-16 semifinal. The third-seeded Cougars (17-7-1), who will face top-seeded South Dade in Thursday’s championship. Freddy Zamora, who earned the save, went 2-for-3, and Alejandro Mosquera added three hits for Killian, which scored all of its runs in the third.
