Palmetto Shuts Out Miami Sunset On Opening Day

Palmetto Left-handed pitcher Matt Turner picked up nine strikeouts to lead the Panthers to a 1-0 win over Miami Sunset at the Battle Down South Tournament at South Dade on Monday’s Opening Day. Junior right-handed pitcher Jake Sheeder recorded three strikeouts to earn his first save of the season for Palmetto.

Senior Eddy Arteaga’s double was the Panthers only base hit in the game. Despite recording just one hit, Palmetto (1-0) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning.

Palmetto continues tournament play against Braddock at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Sunset (0-1) will face tournament host South Dade at 7 p.m. Thursday.
