Essay:

During these unprecedented times we are all staring the unknown straight in the face. Many of us are enduring very scary thoughts. For example, some people are unsure of the source of their next paycheck, or meal, while others are battling for their lives fighting a virus with many uncertainties.

While I sit in front of my computer and write this essay, my concerns seem minuscule compared to what others are facing. I am fortunate enough to have two loving parents who can provide for me. I do not wonder where my next meal will come from or worry that the bills won’t be paid on time. I am living comfortably, and without worry about my health or the health of my loved ones.

In times like these we must be grateful, and I have a lot to be grateful for. Throughout my high school career, I was able to achieve so much. I had caring teachers, who educated me on so much more than just the subjects they teach. I made lifelong friends, who I consider more like brothers and sisters. I played the sport I love with the most amazing teammates and coaches anyone can ask for.

As a freshman, I was able to see upperclassmen accomplish the goal many of us as high school baseball players set. The goal of lacing up our cleats on a college field and playing at the next level. Along with the coaching staff, they set an example for me and pushed me to work hard. It is because of them I have accomplished my dream.

It is a dream I’ve had ever since I watched my first college game, and it is now becoming a reality. I will be fortunate enough to play college baseball and pursue a degree next year. My future is bright, and I have a lot to be excited about. I have so much to be thankful for throughout my high school career.

With all that being said, this was supposed to be my senior year. My time to shine, but it was stripped from me. I will never experience my senior day on the field. My family will not be able to watch from the stands as I play my final home game. I will never know what it’s like to dogpile with my teammates after a district championship win.

I will never get to participate in my senior prom with my high school crush of four years. I will never have the chance to walk on stage in front of my entire class, shake my principal’s hand, accept my diploma, and say one final goodbye. I will never experience the fairy-tale ending to the most incredible four years of my entire life.

However, the last three months of my high school experience will not dictate the way I remember these past four years. These few misfortunes will not ruin high school for me. Because one day I will be reminiscing with my high school friends about these four years and COVID-19 won’t even enter our minds.

Instead, we will be talking about all the laughs we shared and try to remember when that picture was taken. We will remember the pranks we pulled on each other, the greatest games we played, and our favorite moments together.

We will never regret the fact that we had an unconventional ending to our senior year, as we as individuals are all unconventional and unique. This pandemic will end, and life will go back to normal. So, this message is to all high school seniors from my class of 2020. Let us remember high school for the great time it was, and do not allow the ending to overshadow the rest of our amazing memories.

GO LIGHTNING!!
