Southwest Wins Extra-Inning Thriller Over Dr. Krop
The Southwest Eagles came into Tuesday’s game riding high at 8-2, as they took on Dr Krop, a team looking to turn their early season struggles around.
The game was tight for much of the day, with the Eagles surviving in a 4-2 extra inning thriller win.
“That was a barn-burner of a game,” said Southwest Manager Mandy Pelaez. “We always have good games with Dr. Krop. They are well-coached by Paul (Barrios), and we were able to do what we needed to do late in the game to get out of here with a win.”
The Eagles finished with nine hits on the day. while Dr Krop managed six.
Jake Deangelis had two hits for the Lightning. Joel Cabrera and Orijoe Valdes added two hits for the Eagles. Cabrera came into the day leading the team with 10 rbi’s.
After each starting pitcher threw three shutout innings, the offense began in the fourth as Cabrera scored the games first run on a fielder’s choice. Two pick-offs in the inning kept the game at 1-0.
Southwest added another run in the sixth, and took a two run lead into the final inning.
The Lightning’s Jake DeAngelis who came into the game batting .320, tied the game at two in a dramatic seventh inning.
In the top of the eighth, Gabriel Carbajal’s double led to two Eagles runs, and a 4-2 Southwest lead.
“We had our senior right hander Raphael Peraza go seven innings through 105 pitches,” said Dr. Krop Manager Paul Barrios after the game. “It’s a good Southwest team, it’s a well coached team, would have been nice to beat them. But again, we have to get back to work.”
Peraza threw 68 strikes in the loss.
“Peraza was tough on us today,” said Pelaez. “We scored a run early, but couldn’t generate much offensively off him. He was solid today, and made it tough on us.”
The Eagles, who currently sit at #5 in the HSBN Miami Power Rankings. will now turn their attention to Miami Senior on Thursday.
The Lightning are up against JC Bermudez at home on Thursday, looking to get back on track.
“We just, right now, are stuck in situational hitting that we can’t come up with big hits in certain situations. We’re going to keep working. See if things actually get better as we go along,” said Barrios.
