Hot Bats Have Miami Stingarees Off To 7-0 Start
The Miami Stingarees continued their scorching start to 2024 with another lopsided victory on Tuesday. Miami’s 10-0 win over the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes kept their undefeated start going, as it improved to 7-0 this year.
“This is the best start here in over 29 years,” Manager Edwin Bonilla said.
Miami collected eight hits and had 13 different players reach base against the Tornadoes. Meanwhile, the lopsided result and mercy-rule early finish helped keep the Stings below their normal scoring average, where they have been averaging over 14 runs per game so far.
So many guys have been contributing that it is a different player leading the way each game. Against Booker T. Washington, it was junior Samuel Bort-Batista leading the team by going 2-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and two runs.
Lisandro Iglesias also continued his blazing start by going 1-for-2 with an RBI double and a walk against the Tornadoes. The senior outfielder has gone 7-for-10 with three doubles, a home run and nine RBI to kick off the season.
Miami has also been getting it done on the bump, with three shutouts already in seven games. Santiago Espana registered seven strikeouts with no hits and one walk to earn the win against the Tornadoes, already his third win of the season. The freshman has piled up 22 strikeouts in just under 12 innings to lead the pitching staff.
As the schedule continues to get tougher and tougher ahead, the Stingarees will look to feed off this success and build confidence heading into tough upcoming games against Dr. Krop and Doral Academy. But already halfway past last year’s win total off a 12-13 campaign, there is plenty of reason to believe more program records could be surpassed by this group this year.
