Miami Springs Continues Hot Play With Win Over Pines Charter
Miami Springs had a rough start to their season, losing three of their first four games. If the past two games, however, are any indication of where the season is headed, the Golden Hawks appear to be in good shape.
On Tuesday afternoon, Springs won their second consecutive game by run-rule, defeating Pembroke Pines Charter 13-3.
“Today was our first game of the year at home, and it was nice to play well and get the win,” said Springs Manager David Fanshawe. “We had been road warriors the first five games, so it was nice to finally play at home in front of our home crowd, and to play a complete game like we did.”
The Hawks got their offense going early in this one, scoring 11 runs in the first four innings. A fielder’s choice, a single by Magdiel Estevez, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Samuel Camacho, gave the Hawks a 3-0 lead in the first.
After a Springs run in the second, Pines Charter battled back in the top of the third, with two runs of their own.
In the fifth, the Hawks put the game away with five runs. It was a combination of big hits, walks, and a couple errors that led to the big inning.
“Our guys did a good job at the plate tonight, said Fanshawe. “We took advantage of some of the opportunities that they gave us, and we created runs and big innings with some big hits. It was a good overall win.”
Pines Charter was not without some positives that came out of the game. Outfielder Justin Providence had the only two hits on the day for the Jags, going 2-for-3 on the day.
“Games like this can be good early in the year because they highlight what you really have to work on as a team,” said Iglesias. “We will get back to practice tomorrow, and Thursday and get ready to face Nova on Friday.”
Springs will also have a couple days of practice, before hosting 7-3 Archbishop Carroll on Friday afternoon.
“We battled through the early part of the year, with playing our preseason games, and our first five games on t
he road,” said Fanshawe. “It is nice to get a full week of games at home. We will get back to work at practice, and get ready for Archbishop Carroll later this week.”
