LaSalle Earns Another Road Win In Comeback At Gulliver Prep

The LaSalle Royal Lions earned their fifth win of the season on Wednesday, with all five wins so far coming on the road.
Winning on the road does not come easy, but don’t tell that to the LaSalle Royal Lions. Behind a strong outing on the mound and some timely hitting, LaSalle earned its fifth victory of the season with a 6-3 comeback at Gulliver Prep on Wednesday afternoon. All five of their wins have come away from home so far for the Lions (5-2).
“It was a tight game the whole way through; both starters came out today and gave their teams a chance to win the ball game,” LaSalle Manager Nathan Gomez said. “Alex Corzo had a great bounce-back outing, striking out nine in six innings and allowing zero earned runs.”
The host Raiders (0-5) actually grabbed the lead early on, going up 3-0 in the bottom of the second. But Corzo continued to toe the rubber and deliver quality pitches to give his offense time to answer back, which is exactly what it did in the top of the third inning.
Gianni Farach walked, Daniel Gonzalez singled and Jonny Quintana also walked to load the bases. Senior Connor Hernandez then delivered the big dagger, as he lined a double to right field that drove in a pair, and then Hector Sosa followed with a two-RBI single to left that gave LaSalle the lead.
“Our middle of the lineup did a great job of battling deep in counts with runners in scoring position today,” Gomez said. “We’ve been emphasizing every day in practice how important it is to force the defense to make plays. It helped us out today.”
The Lions added two more insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Farach drew another free pass and Gonzalez followed with a bunt single to third base, with Brandon Nunez also drawing a walk to load the bases once again. Jonny Quintana came through this time, with a two-RBI single to center.
“We have a great group this year,” Gomez said. “The chemistry has been fun to be part of. It’s an older group that has been through a lot of games together. Our focus is on creating good habits and playing the game with effort. We know if we can continue to focus on what we can control we will get the most out of our opportunities.”
