Marathon Gets Right With Big Win Over Riviera Prep

The Marathon Dolphins celebrated a shutout home victory on Friday night.
The Marathon offense had stalled in its last two contests, as the Dolphins managed just one run in the two losses. But on Friday night the bats got going and pounded the way to a convincing, 11-0 win over the Riviera Prep Bulldogs.
“This is a big South Florida Conference win that came at the perfect time, and we look to ride this momentum into next week,” Marathon Manager Joey Gonzalez said. “Our offense had a big day at the plate, led by senior Gavin Leal and freshman Jack Chapman both going 2-for-3. It was a well-balanced team effort, with nine hits being spread across seven out of our nine starting guys.”
After grabbing a pair of runs to crack the scoreboard in the bottom of the second, the Dolphins (2-3) added on three more in the third, before putting things away with a six-run fourth inning.

Jason Stubblefield Jr. was 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, two stolen bases and a run.
This early into the season most clubs are still figuring out what sort of team they have, and how to put it all together. Friday’s victory is a glimpse to what the Marathon offense is capable of when it is clicking.
“We got off to a hot start to open up preseason play against Highlands Christian in a big doubleheader sweep. Then we ran across some really solid pitchers early on out of Somerset Silver Palms and Coral Shores, but I am pleased with the battle we have shown,” Gonzalez said. “We are excited for our one and two at the top of our rotation, led by senior Mason Thornton and sophomore Dylan Williams, and our well-balanced offense, led by twin brothers Gavin and Gabe Leal, and sophomore Jason Stubblefield Jr.”
Dylan Williams also had a fine day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBI. Bryan Broche drove in a pair as well, going 1-for-1 and also walking twice to reach base all three trips to the plate.
