It could have just been another game between two teams that play each other all the time. Except when the game is played at a Major League Baseball stadium, it becomes a memory that will last forever.
On Tuesday, the Miami Stingarees and Hialeah Thoroughbreds enjoyed the rare chance to compete in a matinee game at loanDepot Park, the MLB field for the hometown Miami Marlins. The two rivals battled for six innings they will never forget, as the Stingarees broke a tie game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn a 5-2 victory that improved Miami to 9-1 on the season.
With things all evened up at 2-2, Miami generated some offense with an aggressive approach on the bases. Francisco Sanchez led off with a walk, advanced on a bunt single from Samuel Bort-Batista and advanced to third, where he was replaced for courtesy-runner Roc Bogan. Bogan then tallied the winning run thanks to an RBI single from Wryan Jenkins.

Miami kept things going to add some valuable insurance runs. Jann Soto advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt, and Noah Lovet walked to load the bases. Bort-Batista waited his chance and then seized the moment to come home, and Jenkins also followed to increase the lead.
The Stings struck first to lead 1-0 in the first, after Soto singled, stole second, advanced to third on a fielder’s choice from Darvin Linarte and then stole home to complete his trip around the MLB bases.
The Thoroughbreds answered back to even things up at a run apiece in the top of the fourth, but Miami answered right back in the bottom half of the inning.

With two outs, Lucas Arriaza lined a shot past third base and raced around the bases for a triple he will likely never forget. He then scored on a passed ball to put the Stings back in front.
Sophomore Santiago Espana made the start for Miami, and he delivered a quality start from the MLB mound. Espana allowed one run on five hits and two walks in four innings, with one strikeout.
Soto came on in relief, and, despite surrendering a game-tying run in the fifth, earned the victory after the offense rallied back for him. He then closed things out in the sixth, allowing a base hit, before digging in and recording three straight outs to end the game.
