Miami Christian Smashes Ahead To Regional Semifinals

It’s that time of year again for the Miami Christian Victors. Once again the playoffs brought out best from this team, a state contender that nobody is anxious to face during the postseason. Saturday afternoon, Miami Christian opened with a bang by dispatching the Highland Christian Knights with a 14-4 victory, in a Class 1A-4 regional quarterfinal.
The Victors (16-12) advance into the 1A regional semifinals, a best-of-three series against the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack. The Wolfpack (12-13) defeated Dade Christian in the other quarterfinal to advance for another shot at their district rivals, as Miami Christian is already 2-0 against them this season.
“I feel like our team is starting to build momentum and starting to believe and play Miami Christian Playoff Baseball,” Miami Christian Manager Chris Cuadra said. “We’re excited to move on to the next round and one step closer to our goal.”
The offense showed no mercy, pounding out 12 hits and 13 RBI to total up the 14 runs. Raymond Santiago led the way by going 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBI and four runs. Eduardo Perez also went deep with a solo home run, while Fabrizio Sangroniz was 1-for-2 with a double, three RBI, a walk and three runs. Luis Mijares went 2-for-2 with a walk and three RBI, Karl Heron was 2-for-3 with a run and Noel Gilyard went 1-for-3 with a walk and three runs.
The only thing that has stopped the Victors from reaching the regional finals over the past eleven years was the pandemic. The team has accomplished that goal of reaching the regional final every year since 2016, other than the 2020 season that was cut short by the global pandemic in which there were no playoffs. But now they must earn four wins in a season against the same opponent in order to advance, as this new rivalry adds another playoff chapter.
