Schoolhouse Prep Advances To First-Ever Regional Final

As Alex Jimenez’s single made its way into the center field grass, Daniel Perez raced across the plate for a historic moment for the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack. Perez walked off the Wolfpack for a 5-4 victory over the Miami Christian Victors in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the regional semifinals and send Schoolhouse Prep to the regional finals for the first time in program history.
In only its fourth year, Schoolhouse Prep has taken the next step. The Wolfpack (14-13) are just one stop away from the ultimate dream in reaching the state tournament, needing to win the best-of-three regional finals next weekend in order to make that dream come true.
“It was a hard-fought game today,” Schoolhouse Prep Manager Omar Enriquez said. “Now we’re going to be facing Brito in tough games coming up.”
After Miami Christian rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, the Wolfpack responded in the eighth to grab the dub. Maikel Gonzalez led off with an infield single, and Daniel Perez dropped down a sac bunt that the defense managed to erase the lead runner on instead. But Perez then stole second to get himself into scoring position, and Jimenez delivered the big hit.
Schoolhouse had control early on, taking a 4-0 lead after two innings. Rogelio Perez tripled to start the offense off with its first swings in the bottom of the first, and Francisco Mejias drove him home with an RBI single to left. Santiago Blanco scored on an RBI from Mejias in the second, and Netialy Fuentes followed with an RBI single that plated Calex Cosculluela. An error allowed Fuentes to also score.
