Schoolhouse Prep Advances To The Promised Land

It took four long years, but the wait is finally over.
The truth is, the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack have accomplished a remarkable historical milestone, and much sooner than anyone should have ever reasonably expected it. With a 4-1 comeback victory over the Miami Brito Panthers on Saturday afternoon, Schoolhouse Prep won its first-ever regional championship and also earned a trip to the FHSAA state tournament for the first time in its very short school history. After beginning play only four seasons ago, the Wolfpack (16-13) have their very first trophy for the display case.
Schoolhouse Prep advances to the state Final Four at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, with a chance to make even more history and win the championship.
“I’m super proud of the boys,” Schoolhouse Prep Manager Omar Enriquez said. “It was a hard-fought game, and we are excited that we won district championship and are going to Fort Myers next week. It is a great season so far. Let’s keep it rolling!”
Down 1-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning, Schoolhouse Prep broke open to grab the lead. Rogelio Perez walked and advanced into scoring position thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Francisco Mejias. Netialy Fuentes singled to put runners on the corners, and Aaron Aguilar tied the game with an RBI single to left field. Patience was then rewarded, as Alex Jimenez worked the count for a bases-loaded RBI walk that gave the Wolfpack the lead, and Jorge Quintero pushed across another with a four-pitch RBI walk.
Mejias then capped the day with a loud bang, a solo home run in the top of the seventh that supplied another insurance run and helped keep the momentum in favor of the Wolfpack.
“That was a big-time bomb,” Coach Enriquez said.
