Hernan Adames, a 1984 graduate of Southwest, was the first assistant coach hired by new head coach Mandy Pelaez. A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Adames was a star shortstop for the Eagles and the Most Valuable Player of the ’84 squad. He also earned All-Dade and All-State honors. Adames signed with FIU out of high school and led the Panthers with 8 home runs as a freshman. The Chicago White Sox made him the 19th pick in the first round of the January 1986 draft and he played two years in the minor leagues before retiring. Adames brings almost 20 years of coaching experience to Southwest. In addition to his popular baseball school, he has been a highly successful coach at the high school level. He led the TERRA program for five years before moving over to LaSalle for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Among the highlights of his 2016 season were a 3-0 win over the Eagles at Andre Dawson Field and a 1-0 victory over eventual Class-9A state champion Parkland Douglas. |
